Perks and Programs

We asked BambooHR to share a few programs they feel really capture what's unique about their workplace. Here is what they had to say.

  • Paid Paid Vacation: Because we want employees to be able to have enriching experiences with family and friends, we give each full-time employee $2000 per year to spend on vacation expenses. Bambooligans have been everywhere from Disneyland to Thailand on Paid Paid Vacation, and we love seeing their pictures and hearing about their adventures when they get back.
  • 40-Hour Workweek: We believe that work should support personal life, not the other way around. So we don’t stick around the office for 50 hours a week. We don’t answer phone calls at all hours of the night. And we definitely don’t keep one eye on the inbox while we’re on vacation. Instead, we focus intensely while we’re working (with occasional breaks to have a little fun), and then we leave it at the door when we clock out. By doing that, we get done in 40 hours per week what employees at many companies do in 50 or more hours.
  • Flexibility: We provide quite a bit of flexibility for our team members. Many Bambooligans choose to work from home at times—sometimes as part of a set schedule and other times just as the need arises. We understand that school programs, sick pets, dentist appointments, and other life events happen, and we support employees when they need to work irregular hours to accommodate those things.
  • Financial Education: We care a lot about helping employees succeed—professionally, personally, and even financially. To help with that, we provide a couple of different benefits for increasing financial savvy. First, we have a financial consultant who employees can meet with to discuss their 401k investments, investment strategy, and financial goals. Second, if employees attend Financial Peace University (or a similar financial class), we pay the class fee and give employees a $100 bonus. Following principles learned in the class, Bambooligans have paid off and saved hundreds of thousands of dollars.
  • All-Hands Meetings: In May and November each year, all Bambooligans meet off location for a day full of inspiration, celebration, and team building. These meetings help us stay transparent with everything going on at the company, connect with coworkers who we don’t get to work with on a daily basis, and rejuvenate ourselves so we can continue doing great work. One of the best parts of our November meeting are the hours we dedicate to giving back. Last year, we worked with Feed My Starving Children to create 100,000 meals to feed impoverished children all over the world.
  • Company Values: We know our culture is the secret sauce to our success. And the recipe for that secret sauce is our company values: 1-Enjoy quality of life. 2-Grow from good to great. 3-Be open. 4-Assume the best. 5-Do the right thing. 6-Lead from where you are. 7-Make it count. We hire people who exhibit the values. Every person—CEO to intern—is expected to live the values every day. And they create a company culture that’s enjoyable and innovative.
  • Monthly Company Updates: Transparency is an important part of our culture, and monthly updates help us stay consistently transparent. Each month, we gather for a couple of hours of updates. We hear from different departments, employees give shoutouts to coworkers, we talk about what’s going on internally (everything from our recent user conference to service projects), and we cap it off with lunch. It’s fun, and it helps us all stay on the same page.
  • Informal Camaraderie: Although it isn’t necessarily a company program, the natural camaraderie that exists among Bambooligans definitely starts with and adds to our culture. Departments get together at cabins for potluck dinners often. Coworkers have met up to help an employee put a new roof on his house. Teams play ultimate frisbee and board games during lunch. Mountain bikers meet before work to hit a trail or two. We genuinely love being around each other—so much so that we choose to do it outside of work hours, too.
