Perks and Programs

We asked Autodesk, Inc. to share a few programs they feel really capture what's unique about their workplace. Here is what they had to say.

  • Sabbaticals: Autodesk provides all eligible, full-time employees with six weeks of paid time off – every four years! Autodesk does not expect anything from employees “in return.” The sabbatical is simply an opportunity to do what you love. Many employees travel, volunteer, or spend quality time with friends and family all while getting well-deserved rest and relaxation.
  • Autodesk Foundation: The Autodesk Foundation is the first foundation to focus investment exclusively on the people and organizations using design for impact. Autodesk call them "impact designers"—they are the catalysts of the design-led revolution now underway. Autodesk invests in impact designers who share our mission to create a better world. Project examples include energy efficient home building programs, accessible prosthetics design, and sustainable farming tools.
  • Pier 9 Office: Autodesk's Pier 9 workshop on the San Francisco Bay houses a community of designers, engineers, artists, and product innovators exploring new ways of making things, using state-of-the-art production tools and machinery. Autodesk employees can explore their creativity by taking classes in laser cutting, woodworking, robotics, 3D-printing, and more, in this state-of-the-art digital fabrication workshop.
  • Free software for Education: Today’s challenges will be solved by tomorrow’s designers. That’s why Autodesk gives students, educators, and educational institutions free access to our design software, creativity apps, and learning resources. This new access should allow more than 680 million people from over 800,000 schools and 188 countries have access to the software at no cost. Providing free software in educational settings is one of Autodesk’s many initiatives to put design and engineering to work making the world a better place.
  • Employee Volunteerism: Autodesk’s employee volunteerism program encourages and rewards employees to participate in a wide range of philanthropic activities. Autodesk matches up to $3,000 in charitable donations per year for each employee, and grants employees four hours per month during company time to volunteer. Employees are free to choose how and where they spend their time and donations.
  • Enhancements to Paid Parental Leave: Autodesk enhanced its paid parental leave program this year. Paid Parental Leave increased to six weeks for everyone! You don’t need to be a primary caregiver to qualify. Employees are eligible to use their leave time for up to one year from a baby’s birth or a child's adoption/foster care placement.
  • Free Instructables Online Classes: Autodesk extended free premium Instructables subscriptions to all employees this summer. Nine online classes including 3D Printing, Glue, Hand Sewing, Knitting, Leatherworking, Pasta Making, Robots, Wearable Electronics, and Woodworking are now available with more to come!

How to Get Hired

We asked Autodesk, Inc. for some inside information on how to get hired at the organization. Here is what they had to say.

What key characteristics tell you a prospective employee will be a great fit for your company?

Autodesk’s mission is to help people imagine, design and create a better world.  Our goals are lofty, so to be a great fit at Autodesk, prospective employees need to believe the mission and fit in culturally.  To thrive at Autodesk, you don’t necessarily need to be an architect or fluent in our latest 3D modeling software – you need to demonstrate a real passion for your work.  We look for personalities, tinkerers, problem solvers, positive attitudes, risk takers, and above all – respectful folks who will work hard to get the job done.

What can prospective employees do to get your attention?

Think of your application or cover letter like a date or a dinner party conversation.  Those tend to go when well you are yourself.  The applications that capture our attention are the simple and honest ones – the ones that show off your curiosity, your passions, your interests, and are authentic.  Above all, keep it short and sweet!

Are there any positions or types of candidates you are particularly focused on hiring in this coming year?

We’re looking for “roll up your sleeves” software engineers, UX designers, cloud and DevOps, digital storytellers, growth hackers, next gen marketers, and sales persons.  These are only a few – we’re growing and hiring across the board.

What should interested candidates do to find out more and get started?
