Perks and Programs

We asked Atherton to share a few programs they feel really capture what's unique about their workplace. Here is what they had to say.

  • Loving Care Fund: With residents aging from 65 to 107 years old, Atherton subsidizes approximately $1.8 million to residents who have depleted their financial resources. Our charitable partners give to the "Loving Care Fund" which helps offset the cost of these residents. Their gifts and support are a vital resource to the mission of Atherton.
  • Bridging Generations: Partnering with a local Elementary School, Atherton matches staff and residents with students in a reading program. The staff and residents of Atherton go to the Elementary School to the Third grade classes to read with the students both one on one and in groups. Atherton also hosts events on the Atherton campus for the students where the students read, learn to write poetry, illustrate stories and have a meal with the resident volunteers.
  • Feeding Hearts and Minds: Atherton partners with the Center for Living Independence for Multi-Handicapped Blind (CLIMB) and provides 1,760 meals a week for their clients. This partnership enables the staff to help people in our local community participate in all aspects of community living and the work force.
  • Gleanings: Annually, Atherton staff and residents participate in Gleanings, a one week trip with Youth With A Mission (YWAM). During this trip, staff and residents blend and package procured dried soup mix. Throughout the year YWAM collects donated shelf-stable food for blending and packaging. Everything produced is given free of charge, to partner ministries around the world.
  • Fall Festival: For 34 years Atherton has hosted an annual one-day Fall Festival. The Fall Festival is open to the community at large so that we may share the warm, friendly atmosphere that is Atherton. With a typical turnout of 1000 people, we offer food, entertainment, a kid-zone for families and a health fair. Also, we have several small boutiques set-up for the bargain shopper.
  • An Active Life: The Activities of Atherton are numerous. Meant for staff, residents and families. From monthly out-to lunch with an Executive Team member or Director, day trips to local venues/exhibits/theatre/ concerts, weekend trips to the Grand Canyon, or long trips out of the Country. Atherton has something for everyone. All are welcome and invited.
