Perks and Programs

We asked Assurance to share a few programs they feel really capture what's unique about their workplace. Here is what they had to say.

  • “Eye of the Tiger” Wellness: In 2016, we launched a new wellness program that allows employees to tailor their wellness goals and incentives to their individual needs and desires. Employees can earn up to $500 per year by living our wellness philosophy of “Know it. Prevent it. Do it.” Throughout the year, employees will accumulate points for completing biometric screenings (know it); practicing preventative medicine by receiving annual physicals, dental exams and eye exams (prevent it); and exercising, participating in Assurance-sponsored wellness challenges and more (do it). Toward the end of the year, employee wellness points are converted into wellness dollars to be spent on qualified wellness expenses, such as gym memberships, fitness equipment and more.
  • Shared Success Program: Through our Shared Success program, we literally put our money where our mouth is. Each year, we set individual and collective goals around strategic initiatives, giving employees up to 2.5% of their salary + $650. In 2015, for example, we tasked our staff with recording a personal video of how they live our passion (Minimizing risk. Maximizing health.) through their roles. If 90% followed through on it, those who did would receive their bonus. 96% did it. In 2016, we’ve doubled down on wellness. Through our wellness program, employees who reach 700 wellness points earn $500 to spend on wellness stuff. We’ve also declared that, if 85% of employees reach 700 points, we’ll throw in an additional $200 to spend on anything.
  • Assurance Caring Together (ACT): Through ACT, our employee-led and employee-driven charitable outreach program, each employee is granted a paid day off to volunteer with charities nominated by employees and selected by our ACT committee. Since 2005, Assurance employees have donated more than 19,000 labor hours, helping local charities build homes, clean our forest preserves, pack food for the hungry and much, much more. In addition, our ACT committee is granted 1% of our annual profits to distribute funds as they see fit to local charities.
  • Celebrate Good Times: Between closing our doors for a day to simply appreciate our employees – Employee Appreciation Day – and our Employee Holiday Party, one thing’s for certain: we know how to throw a party. We brought a ‘rock’ theme to Employee Appreciation Day 2015, which included a private performance by Howie Day, unforgettable live rock band karaoke, a rock climbing wall and more. In December of 2015, we celebrated the holidays and perhaps the greatest year in Assurance history in style at a Winter Wonderland-themed holiday party. Employees created their own snow globes, ice skated, took photos inside a life-sized snow globe and more.
  • Happy Hour/Casino: At the end of each quarter, our employees shut down a bit early, grab a beer, socialize with coworkers and possibly win some on-the-spot cash at Assurance Casino/Happy Hour. Employees earn “Casino chips” throughout each quarter for completing activities, such as making an employee referral, completing an education course, participating in our wellness program and more. At the end of each quarter, 75 lucky employees are selected at random (the more chips, the greater the odds) to spin our Wang Chung Wheel for up to $300.
  • Award Winning In-House Training: With our year-over-year double-digit growth comes great advancement opportunities for our employees, and our Learning & Development team ensures our ‘A’ Team is up to the task. We regularly host in-house designation and continuing education classes exclusively for Assurance employees to encourage growth – for our employees and our company. We incent our employees along the way with bonuses and our Learning & Development team’s even been recognized for Assurance’s exceptional pass rates for designation courses. In addition to these free courses, we offer up to $5,250 per year in tuition reimbursement.
  • Work/Life Balance: First-year Assurance employees receive 19 days of PTO, one half-day each summer month, a paid day off to volunteer, their birthday off and nine paid holidays. Assurance offers telecommuting options and flexible schedules to accommodate the needs of employees and their lifestyles. New mothers receive up to eight weeks of maternity leave paid at 100% and fathers one week of paternity leave. And, finally, our multiple Chicagoland office locations give our employees additional flexibility to let their personal lives grow with their careers.
  • Perk, perk, perk, perk: The perks at Assurance are so plentiful, they have their own brand. Assurance Perks include numerous discounts on various products, services and events, including hotels, restaurants, clothing, salon services, sporting events, electronics, jewelry and even onsite dry cleaning.
  • Land of the Free: The best things in life really are free. Gourmet Starbuck’s coffee stations are sprinkled throughout our offices and our kitchens are always well-stocked with fresh fruit and other healthy snacks. Each year we also host free onsite biometric screenings, flu shots, nutrition consultations, fitness consultations and more.

How to Get Hired

We asked Assurance for some inside information on how to get hired at the organization. Here is what they had to say.

What key characteristics tell you a prospective employee will be a great fit for your company?

We don’t just have a list of top 10 Best & Brightest Characteristics all employees must possess. Our “top 10” goes to 11! To reach their greatest potential at Assurance, employees must be accountable, ambitious, caring, ethical, flexible, participative, positive, proactive, responsive, smart and understanding. ‘A’ Team members who exhibit these traits, no matter their position in the organization, are well equipped to advance our vision and benefit most from everything Assurance offers. However, we understand that not every Assurance rock star is going to ace every one of these characteristics. Our own CEO is the first to admit he needs work on some of these. So we’re flexible! The desire to perfect all 11 is an excellent indicator for Assurance success.

What can prospective employees do to get your attention?

Like our current employees, our best candidates are ambitious and proactive. If you’re looking to get hired at Assurance, do your research! Knowing why you chose Assurance and how you’d be an asset to our ‘A’ Team goes a long way. So does being yourself. While we hire for technical job skills, attitude and culture fit are weighted a bit heavier because we can always teach the former. Simply put, we love candidates who naturally share our passion for minimizing risk and maximizing health and can speak to the great workplace culture we’ve created.

Are there any positions or types of candidates you are particularly focused on hiring in this coming year?

The professional opportunities available at Assurance are continually evolving, and we’re consistently seeking passionate candidates to join our team. We’re expanding both our Chicagoland offices and opening offices in new states so we literally have room to grow. As Assurance continues growing, we’re specifically looking for career-minded, experienced insurance professionals for service and sales roles. We also have a proven track record of developing our own future leaders, routinely filling entry-level positions – for which we’re continually recruiting – with young professionals destined for insurance greatness.
