Perks and Programs

We asked ARM to share a few programs they feel really capture what's unique about their workplace. Here is what they had to say.

  • Vacation Policy: ARM provides four weeks (20 days) of paid leave, with the option for the employee to purchase a fifth week. This is in addition to the 13 paid holidays throughout the year, so employees can have almost eight weeks of vacation a year! After 4 years of service, all employees receive a fifth week of vacation with the option to purchase a sixth week.
  • Sabbatical Policy: ARM employees earn a 4-week sabbatical after every 4 years of service that they have up to 1 year to use however they see fit. Many of our employees travel around the world, spend time with their families, or even catch up on their own personal projects involving ARM technology!
  • Employee Stock Purchase Plan: ARM provided employees with the opportunity to purchase ARM stock at a discounted rate on the NASDAQ Stock Market. This benefit will be suspended as a result of the recent announcement by Softbank to acquire ARM.
  • Employee Referral Bonus: To encourage employee referrals, ARM offers a $3000 employee referral bonus that is payable within 90 days of the new hire's start date.
  • Opportunities to Network and Learn: ARM offers full time employee opportunities for career development by encouraging them to learn and network. We host annual conferences, such as the GGC - Global Graduate Conference, GEC - Global Engineer Conference and APM - ARM Partners Meeting, all based in the UK.
  • Social Events: All employees are invited to the annual Summer and Holiday (Christmas) parties, in addition to several smaller milestone celebrations throughout the year. While not quite a social event, we also have many TeamARM events such as Dragonboat, volunteering at various Capital Area Food Bank and Big Brothers Big Sisters events. To make their internships more memorable, we host several social events including tubing, outings at Top Golf and ice cream socials throughout the summer.
  • Flexible work hours: We place a lot of trust in our employees, and offer a flexible work schedule. All work hours should still be communicated with the respective line manager, but trust is key.
  • Subsidized fitness classes: We care about our employees health, so at certain offices where the population is large enough, we offer subsidized fitness training classes.

How to Get Hired

We asked ARM for some inside information on how to get hired at the organization. Here is what they had to say.

What key characteristics tell you a prospective employee will be a great fit for your company?

Every potential new hire should embody our core beliefs so that they will be successful and add to the collective success of the ARM partnership. Our core beliefs represent the essence of ARM, and what makes our business unique. Our core beliefs are ‘We, Not I’, ‘Passion for Progress’ and ‘Be Your Brilliant Self’ and they guide how we behave every day of the week – whether it’s in an internal meeting, a customer negotiation, dealing with the press or working with our ecosystem or suppliers. The ARM behaviours underpin the core beliefs and detail how we expect our teams to behave.

What can prospective employees do to get your attention?

Dabble with electronics in your spare time if you’re early in your career, or do things like contribute to open source. Engaging with the industry outside of working hours is a great indication of passion and aligns with our behavior ‘passion for progression’. This could include attending conferences etc. In our Research team, we look for researchers who publish papers and file for patents. We also have a strong employee referral program (Connected Talent) at ARM and prospective candidates may wish to reach out to their network to hear more about our culture, roles and the recruitment process. Candidates can also follow us on social media, and engage with us there!

Are there any positions or types of candidates you are particularly focused on hiring in this coming year?

We're always looking to hire more software professionals. Most people think of ARM as a pure hardware company, when in fact, we're about 50% hardware and 50% software, so we can always use more software engineers/developers! The software that is created has the potential to impact billions, as our partners shipped over 15 billion ARM-based chips in 2015.

What should interested candidates do to find out more and get started?

Take a look on our social media or online channels (Twitter, Glassdoor, ARM connected community) and talk with us if you see us at events! The more you know about who ARM is as a company, the better prepared you can be when conversing with us in an interview, and the type of people we're looking for.
