Perks and Programs

We asked Alight Solutions to share a few programs they feel really capture what's unique about their workplace. Here is what they had to say.

  • Our Values: Alight’s values are the essence of who we are. They represent the qualities and behaviors most important to our organization. We’re guided by five simple principles: People Matter, Excellence Every Day, Think Forward, Act Now and Be Real. We strive to live our values in everything we do every day, and our leadership team makes it easy to do. Chris Michalak, our CEO, leads by example and actively works to keep us informed and engaged about the business and where we’re headed. Through regular blogs, townhalls, one-on-one interactions, shout outs and pulse surveys, Chris keeps our purpose, vision and values alive and ingrained in our DNA. By being visible, accessible, honest and transparent about the inner workings of our business, our successes and failures, the marketplace, and more, Chris has created a people-oriented culture founded on trust that is always ready for the next challenge.
  • Alight People Matter Fund (APMF: Recent natural disasters, including the catastrophic hurricanes of 2017, devastated many of our local communities. To provide disaster relief to our colleagues impacted by Hurricanes Harvey, Maria and Irma in Texas, Florida and Puerto Rico, our colleagues around the world responded by donating more than $375K to date through the Alight People Matter Fund (APMF). Set up in September 2017 after Hurricane Harvey and mere months after our launch as a new entity, APMF was established based on colleagues’ desire to help fellow colleagues in their time of greatest need. Colleagues also donated accrued vacation time, using the PTO Exchange—an emergency relief vacation time donation program. From September through December 2017, 30 colleagues donated over 500 vacation hours. Colleagues in Houston, Texas and Puerto Rico also volunteered in their communities to help clean and rebuild damaged or destroyed structures. Colleagues in other communities collected and sent supplies.
  • Giving Back: We believe that people matter—including those in our communities. From annual Global Service Day to the Heart Walk and Dragon Boat competition in Texas, we contributed a combined 25,663 hours of volunteer service. Alight constantly seeks new volunteer opportunities that help our communities and support our purpose. This year, CEO Chris Michalak volunteered alongside other colleagues at three local events to raise awareness of global poverty, hunger and injustice. One group packed seeds, making it possible for hundreds of communities across Africa to grow produce to feed their families. The second group participated in a simulation to recreate how it feels to be in an economically challenged and oppressed environment. The goal was to keep family units intact, while sending one child to school. The last group volunteered in a soup kitchen. During our annual anniversary celebration, “#beAlight” week, we sponsored “Give Back” opportunities, to support each location’s community.
  • Shine Recognition Program: At Alight, excellence every day is not only a value, it’s something we celebrate! Because people are central to shaping our business and our future, we recently introduced Alight’s Shine Recognition Program. This program allows both managers and employees to recognize one another for going above and beyond expectations. This global program makes it easy to recognize one another for achievements (big and small) in support of our business. Each recognition area is aligned specifically to one of our five values, continuing to reinforce what’s most important about our culture. The program also allows colleagues to be recognized for service anniversaries and other milestones. This video captures the spirit of the program and the value it brings our people and managers:
  • Driving Technology and Innovation: Thinking forward, uncovering new paths, new ideas and new solutions helps our clients and their people thrive. To continue bringing breakthrough solutions to our clients, we launched the Alight Innovation Lab at 1871, the largest technology incubator in the world. This allows Alight to access 1871’s resources and space to build solutions that meet some of the biggest health, wealth and HR challenges facing organizations today and tomorrow. Read more and watch the video for more details: In addition, we’re bringing the spirit of innovation into the walls of Alight too. This spring we launched an internal crowd-sourcing campaign called Spark Tank. The program allows Alight colleagues to develop new ideas, products and processes that will positively impact our business, clients and their people and pitch their ideas to senior leaders for potential funding. The top ideas work with the Innovation Lab to make their idea a reality.
  • Spotlight: Building a new company means ensuring colleagues embrace the culture, the vision for the future and the brand. The intranet, Spotlight, is not just a hub for information and resources, but it also provides a way for colleagues to interact with one another and leaders, including our CEO through his weekly blog, and via external social media channels. The award-winning site, through its candid, straightforward communication approach has been applauded by colleagues, too, and continues to serve as the go-to source of information since its launch, with more than 80% of colleagues visiting the site daily. The team consistently gathers feedback, too. In early 2018, dedicated focus groups and a survey helped determine satisfaction with Spotlight and identify improvements. In response, the team improved the user experience, including optimizing the internal social media feed (Yammer), adding more blogs and expanding access to Alight’s thought leadership through a live feed.
  • Benefits for part-time employees: Providing our people with robust benefits is an important part of demonstrating how Alight values their contributions. Both full- and part-time colleagues are an important part of what makes Alight a success, therefore, we offer benefits to both full-time and part-time employees. Alight colleagues can access a full range of health and wellness benefits including medical, dental and vision plans, life insurance, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, legal services, identity theft protection, auto and home insurance, pet insurance, health care advocacy solutions, and our 401(k) savings plan as well as financial health tools and resources.
  • Time-off benefits: At Alight, keeping colleagues happy, focused and productive is vital and having the time to relax, recharge, and focus on their personal goals and obligations is central to this principle. Alight offers several time-off benefits including: holidays (6 holidays in the U.S); vacation (15 days for new employees and up to 30 days for U.S. employees with 20+ years of service); paid parental time off for new parents (via birth/surrogacy or adoption); and personal leave of absence. In addition, colleagues at the director level and above receive unlimited time-off to help balance business and personal demands.
  • Focus on overall health: Alight offers a variety of health and wellness programs around the world. Alight colleagues can participate in wellness programs offered at their location, through virtual options or through Alight partners and health plans. Programs include: health screenings, immunizations, mammograms, smoking cessation, weight loss, exercise and nutrition programs, health coaching, and educational seminars. To truly make an impact, Alight’s leaders are “being real” and sharing their own commitment to wellbeing with fellow colleagues. Global Benefits Leader Bob Lyter is chronicling his wellbeing journey with colleagues on Spotlight, Alight’s intranet. In addition, a “Let’s Get Healthy” Yammer group has grown to nearly 300 members and provides support for all colleagues who need or want a little extra encouragement to get and stay healthy.
  • Listening to our employees: Alight believes it is critical to understand colleagues’ perspectives on our culture, their work experience and their career opportunities. We encourage continuous feedback through ongoing conversations between managers and colleagues and regular updates to colleagues’ goals as business and individual needs change. Alight also conducts colleague surveys every three-to-four months. While some questions differ, we consistently focus on our Thrive score, which is based on three questions that provide an indication of how our colleagues truly feel about working at Alight: 1. It would take a lot to get me to leave Alight. 2. Alight motivates me to do my best work. 3. I tell my friends how great it is to work at Alight. Results are highlighted on our intranet, and leaders address and act on feedback immediately. Colleagues are also asked to reflect on the scores and consider how they impact their score and those of their colleagues.

How to Get Hired

We asked Alight Solutions for some inside information on how to get hired at the organization. Here is what they had to say.

What key characteristics tell you a prospective employee will be a great fit for your company?

Our values –people matter, excellence every day, think forward, act now, and be real – guide us in everything we do. We look for individuals who demonstrate these values and can apply them to the work they do. In addition, we value people who think creatively and place a premium on those who demonstrate an innovative spirit.

What can prospective employees do to get your attention?

Alight is focused on rethinking the future of work and life by bringing breakthrough solutions to our clients and their people. That means we need forward-thinking people who are focused on creative problem-solving and developing consumer-centered technology solutions. We want people who look for unique solutions for everyday problems and challenges—whether big or small. In addition, people who embody our core values— people matter, excellence every day, think forward, act now, and be real— will be strong contenders as future Alight colleagues.

Are there any positions or types of candidates you are particularly focused on hiring in this coming year?

Most importantly, Alight is looking for prospective colleagues who align with our core values. People who share our focus on putting people first—fellow colleagues, our clients and their people—are critical to our future success. We are also looking for colleagues who have an intellectual curiosity. We’ve identified seven strategic skill sets that will be instrumental in positioning Alight for success and attracting the right colleagues while simultaneously promoting our unique culture—and we expect our leader to embody these skills. This is instrumental to shaping our culture and central to helping Alight attract the right people. Alight is continuing to focus on its core business—health, wealth, cloud-based and consumer experience solutions. We are looking for people with health care expertise to help others navigate complex health care challenges. To support our cloud-based HR business, certified Workday and other ERP technical professional will be a hiring priority.

What should interested candidates do to find out more and get started?

To learn more about Alight’s culture and career opportunities, candidates are encouraged to visit our careers website: In addition, Alight’s social media sites: LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube offer a glimpse into what it’s like to work at Alight and what it means to #beAlight. For example, in June we celebrated our one-year brand anniversary. Colleagues commemorated the occasion with parties, volunteering and thanking one another: We also take time to recognize individual colleagues like in March when we highlighted some of our female leaders to commemorate International Women’s Month: Alight colleagues also regularly attend industry conferences and campus recruiting events around the country, which are fantastic opportunities to meet current colleagues.  Candidates can visit to more about events.
