Perks and Programs

We asked Acuity Insurance to share a few programs they feel really capture what's unique about their workplace. Here is what they had to say.

  • Magic Happens Gossip Line: Each month, 20-30 employees are recognized in the Magic Happens program. When employees receive positive feedback from a customer, agent, or colleague, the comments are posted on a bulletin board outside Acuity’s cafeteria. Each month, one employee is drawn out of that group, and the feedback is shared over a voicemail message that all employees receive via a company-wide email. This recognized employee then receives a $50 cash gift card. Acuity acknowledges and rewards efforts that go above and beyond expectations.
  • Lunch with an Officer: On average, once every 6 weeks, employees are invited to have lunch on Acuity with an officer. This lunch typically includes 10-15 employees and an officer of a different area of the business. By the time an employee has been with the company for about two years, he or she will have had the opportunity to have lunch with each officer of the executive team. In these lunches, employees are welcome to provide feedback or suggestions or simply take the time to get to know one another better. Acuity believes that this supports a culture founded on open communication.
  • Wellness Programs: Acuity is a strong supporter of employee wellness. Open to employees 24/7, the building features an on-site 9,800-square-foot (and growing) fitness facility that offers fitness classes at no cost to employees. The facility includes relaxing massage therapy rooms, in which employees can enjoy spa services. The A-Team club offers employees the chance to participate in local races or athletic events in the area. Acuity also hosts a Weight Watchers at Work program, where employees can weigh in and benefit from a support group right on-site. If they attend 50% of the meetings, employees are reimbursed at 25% of the cost of the program. There are plenty of ways to stay well at Acuity.
  • 5 Year Club: All employees who have been with Acuity for fewer than five years are invited to special social events that range from happy hours and kayaking trips to bean bag tournaments, NCAA March Madness competitions, and other events that encourage our employees to get out and explore the community of Sheboygan. These “5-Year Club” events are not only fun, but also a great way for new employees to network with like-minded people from all areas of the business.
  • Generous Benefits: Acuity’s 401(k) program features a 10% contribution to all employee accounts, regardless of their personal contributions. Employees benefit from access to unlimited sick leave, in addition to Acuity's paying for 85% of health insurance premiums.
  • Gamer's Club: The Gamer’s Club is an employee created “Connections” group that plans company-wide events concentrated on video games. The events feature different gaming opportunities, such as 1v1 gaming, group gaming, blindfolded gaming, and tournament play. The annual Mario Kart tournament provides for some serious bragging rights with trophies at stake. Employees can participate, or simply attend to network with fellow employees who share their love of gaming.
  • Connections: Acuity strives to develop communities that capture the many interests and passions of its diverse workforce. The “Connections” program was designed to provide employees the opportunity to connect with one another. Employees have formed groups such as Soccer Tuesdays, Gamer’s Unite, Angels & Outlaws Motorcycle Group, Golf Club, and Broadway Bound. These groups can even apply for financial support from the company to fund different outings.
  • Happy Hour / Family Night: Every even--numbered Thursday of the month is special at Acuity. These Thursdays either provide for Happy Hour or Family Night. During Happy Hour events, employees can stop up to the Center Galleria for a specialty beer or wine, appetizers, and good company among coworkers. On Family Night, employees are encouraged to invite their spouses and children to join them at work for pizza and snacks and a ride on the company’s impressive Charity Ferris Wheel.
  • Town Hall: Town halls at Acuity aren’t just your average company-wide meetings. Four times per year, all employees gather in the company’s 2,000--seat theatre where leaders discuss the outlook of the company and other industry topics. There’s an open mic for employees to ask executives any question that comes to mind. The event comes with free breakfast, other yummy treats, and entertainment such as dueling pianos or a university marching band.
  • Suggestion Box: Acuity has a suggestion box in which employees can anonymously submit their suggestions. Each and every suggestion submitted is reviewed by the Employee Relations Committee comprised of several officers that meet as a group monthly. Employee’s whose suggestions are implemented are eligible to receive a gift card ranging from $100-250. Acuity recently implemented an employee’s idea of offering “doodling stations” that allow employees to draw in coloring books and notepads during breaks.

How to Get Hired

We asked Acuity Insurance for some inside information on how to get hired at the organization. Here is what they had to say.

What key characteristics tell you a prospective employee will be a great fit for your company?

At Acuity, we align our hiring strategies with the company’s core values. Those cores values include developing and empowering people, acting with integrity, having fun, driving excellence, innovating, working as a team, having open communication, and respecting and trusting others. By ensuring that candidates have the capacity to uphold these values, we are confirming that they will be a “cultural fit” to the organization. We value a positive attitude and willingness to learn as well as aspirations to serve as a leader. This hiring strategy allows us to recruit and retain those with potential to become the future leaders of our organization.

What can prospective employees do to get your attention?

We appreciate it when prospective employees have done their research. By research, we mean not only on the business we do at Acuity, but also on who we are as a company. Candidates that show confidence in their experience, values, interests, and abilities aligning with our culture and the position they are applying for stand out to us. You can convey this in your resume, cover letter, and in interviews. Professional follow-up via email, a handwritten note, or a voicemail is also a great way to set yourself apart from the other applicants.

Are there any positions or types of candidates you are particularly focused on hiring in this coming year?

Acuity has plans to hire 100-150 employees each year for the next several years. These hires will include both entry-level and experienced positions, which call for different sets of experiences and abilities. We will focus our recruitment initiatives heavily on adding to the following areas of the business: services, underwriting, claims, information technology, and business systems. These new employees will be instrumental in driving Acuity’s nationwide growth plans.

What should interested candidates do to find out more and get started?

Those interested in pursuing employment with Acuity have many different avenues of connecting with us. First and foremost, we encourage candidates to visit our website at in order to learn more about our company culture and the opportunities we have to offer. We encourage candidates to formally submit an application and cover letter online. They are also welcome to reach out via email, LinkedIn, or voicemail for professional follow-up. As mentioned earlier, the Human Resources team attends several job fairs, so we encourage you to visit us at one of these events as well.
