  • Gift of Time: Associates celebrating their 15 year anniversary with Acorda receive a one-time, four-week paid sabbatical and a cash award of $10,000. They are encouraged to use this time to travel, explore a new hobby, etc. The idea is for the Associate to return from their sabbatical energized and refreshed. In addition to the sabbatical, they receive premium parking and free lunches in the café during their anniversary month.
  • Acorda Service Awards: Acorda has a corporate a culture that allows people to grow with the company. As a result, we have many long-term Associates. Acorda’s service award program thanks our long-term Associates for their years of dedication. Each year we honor Associates who are celebrating their 5 year, 10 year or 15 year anniversaries with the company. The service award celebration includes dinner for recipients and their guest along with their manager and members of the Sr. Management team. They are presented with a personalized award certificate and gift commemorating their years of service. Those Associates celebrating 10 years of service are given an additional five floating holidays to be used in their anniversary year and those with 15 years receive the “Gift of Time.”
  • P&V Awards: This is Acorda’s leading peer recognition program. Associates are nominated by a co-worker for exceeding their regular job duties in one of the Principle and Values (P&V) areas. Awardees are recognized at a company-wide Lunch and Learn, given a cash award, vested stock options and their name is added to the P&V wall of fame. This year the Company has awarded 12 P&V awards to date.
  • Super Bolts: Acorda Associates can celebrate their colleagues through the Super Bolt Award program. All Associates are given the opportunity to award two “Super Bolts” throughout the year. They can award a colleague a $25 Amazon gift card to thank them for their contribution to accomplishing a specific goal.
  • CEO Spot Awards: This is where the CEO can give options or cash for special awards and extraordinary efforts and behaviors.
  • Wellness Program: Acorda offers a reimbursement benefit of up to $500 for all Associates engaging in healthy activities such as gym memberships, fitness classes, personal training sessions, etc. Our Wellness initiatives, designed in tandem with our Wellness Committee, have included campaigns on sleep health with an onsite seminar, sun safety awareness, a fun competition where Associates can fill out a “bingo” card by completing certain healthy activities and be entered into a raffle for a prize. We also host a flu vaccine clinic every Fall. We offer free biometric testing to all Associates. For those covered under our medical plan, improved biometric values, as well as participation in many of our other wellness initiatives, can earn points which translate into a reduction in their medical plan contributions.
  • Flexible Hours: Acorda recognizes and appreciates how hard our Associates work. We offer flex-time and summer hours to help with work life balance. Each Associate has the option to work 8.5 hours Monday – Thursday so they can leave at 3pm on Fridays. In the summer, the Company closes at 1 pm every Friday, without Associates having to make up the time, so people can get started early on their weekends.
  • Holidays: Acorda typically observes 16 paid holidays. This includes the “holiday week” between Christmas and New Year’s.
  • Formal Learning & Education-Leadership Development: We offer a suite of learning opportunities on topics such as; Situational Negotiation Skills, Biotechnology for Non-Scientists, Tips on Writing a High Quality Performance Assessment, and compliance related learning on Code of Ethics, Sexual Harassment, and Adverse Events and Product Complaints. There are departmental specific trainings on Sales Training, Quality, and How to Write Standard Operation procedures. We have a four-day Manager Skills Training program that explores topics such as Targeted Selection, Employment Law, Business Writing, Difficult Conversations, onboarding and Retention Strategies. In addition, we host Learning Bistros, here Acordans can come to learn, share insights, and ask questions on various topics related to our day-to-day work. Each Learning Bistro is hosted by an Acordan, followed by an opportunity to expand the dialogue.
  • Equity Incentive Program: All Associates at Acorda receive hiring and ongoing equity. New Associates may be offered an initial grant of stock options as part of their compensation package. The amount of the grant is based on their position in the organization and competitive compensation trends. Most new hire stock options vest over a four-year period, the first 25% at the end of the first 12 months of employment, and the remaining 75% on a quarterly basis over the remaining three years. The Compensation Committee and the Board of Directors consider the grant of equity incentive awards to Associates each. If grants are awarded, the Compensation Committee determines whether the grant will be Options, or Restricted Stock or a combination. The Committee determines the vesting requirements or restrictions.

What key characteristics tell you a prospective employee will be a great fit for your company?

Acorda seeks to hire people who are motivated to do meaningful work and help our Company move towards our goal of bringing therapies to market that have a positive impact on people’s lives. To be successful at Acorda, a candidate must demonstrate that they can work in a rapidly changing environment, find new solutions to problems, build relationships, take risks and have a sense of humor. Acorda looks to our founding Principles and Values (P&Vs), such as integrity, teamwork, and the ability to work hard (but have fun) when interviewing prospective Associates. We put a strong emphasis on leadership, cultural fit, and technical competencies. We also have a Targeted Selection Interview Program that trains associates on behavioral interviewing to help identify candidates with the right competencies for the role.  All interviewers complete a candidate evaluation questionnaire and attend a debrief session to discuss the candidate’s competencies, qualifications and organizational fit.    

What can prospective employees do to get your attention?

Candidates who demonstrate innovative and forward thinking ideas get our attention.  We want Associates who do things with a continuous improvement mindset - someone who talks about how they have done things differently in the past and had success, peaks our interest.  We look for self-directed individuals who understand the company mission, have “done their homework” and ask well thought-out questions. Candidates should interview us as much as we interview them.

Are there any positions or types of candidates you are particularly focused on hiring in this coming year?

One of our corporate goals is to continue to grow our pipeline of innovative products designed to improve the lives of people living with nervous system disorders. To do this we will be hiring in several different areas across the company such as Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, Clinical Operations, Clinical Development and Program Management. To support our marketed products we will be expanding the Manufacturing, and Quality Assurance groups in the coming year.

What should interested candidates do to find out more and get started?

Interested candidates should review Acorda's website and Acorda's job board. Acorda’s website includes interviews with Associates at all levels of the Company from the CEO and Senior Managers to more junior Associates. These videos discuss the reasons why people have chosen to join the Company and grow their careers at Acorda. Additionally, Acorda attends career fairs focused on diversity within the biotechnology industry where interested candidates can speak with a member of the HR team and collect relevant information about the company to prepare for a potential interview.
