We asked Acorda Therapeutics, Inc. for some inside information on how to get hired at the organization. Here is what they had to say.
What key characteristics tell you a prospective employee will be a great fit for your company?
Acorda seeks to hire people who are motivated to do meaningful work and help our Company move towards our goal of bringing therapies to market that have a positive impact on people’s lives.
To be successful at Acorda, a candidate must demonstrate that they can work in a rapidly changing environment, find new solutions to problems, build relationships, take risks and have a sense of humor. Acorda looks to our founding Principles and Values (P&Vs), such as integrity, teamwork, and the ability to work hard (but have fun) when interviewing prospective Associates. We put a strong emphasis on leadership, cultural fit, and technical competencies.
We also have a Targeted Selection Interview Program that trains associates on behavioral interviewing to help identify candidates with the right competencies for the role. All interviewers complete a candidate evaluation questionnaire and attend a debrief session to discuss the candidate’s competencies, qualifications and organizational fit.
What can prospective employees do to get your attention?
Candidates who demonstrate innovative and forward thinking ideas get our attention. We want Associates who do things with a continuous improvement mindset - someone who talks about how they have done things differently in the past and had success, peaks our interest. We look for self-directed individuals who understand the company mission, have “done their homework” and ask well thought-out questions. Candidates should interview us as much as we interview them.
Are there any positions or types of candidates you are particularly focused on hiring in this coming year?
One of our corporate goals is to continue to grow our pipeline of innovative products designed to improve the lives of people living with nervous system disorders. To do this we will be hiring in several different areas across the company such as Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, Clinical Operations, Clinical Development and Program Management. To support our marketed products we will be expanding the Manufacturing, and Quality Assurance groups in the coming year.

Acorda’s website includes interviews with Associates at all levels of the Company from the CEO and Senior Managers to more junior Associates. These videos discuss the reasons why people have chosen to join the Company and grow their careers at Acorda. Additionally, Acorda attends career fairs focused on diversity within the biotechnology industry where interested candidates can speak with a member of the HR team and collect relevant information about the company to prepare for a potential interview.
