We asked AcademicWorks, Inc. to share a few programs they feel really capture what's unique about their workplace. Here is what they had to say.

  • Lunch Around: Employees can take another employee from a different department out to lunch once per quarter on the company.
  • FILL Lunch: The "Free Interdepartmental Learning Lunch" or FILL is a monthly free lunch for employees with a member of the Executive Team. The Executive sponsor rotates once per month and we encourage representation from all departments within the company. Employees are allowed to ask general questions about the company or more specific questions about the Executives department.
  • Gift Bonus: Our Client Services Team members receive a quarterly bonus based on customer satisfaction. The bonus is split between a cash component and a gift purchased for them by another team member (randomly assigned). The gift exchange is always a fun way for team members to learn more about their peers.
  • Monthly Happy Hour: We shut the office an hour early on the first Friday of each month for Company Happy Hour. The monthly happy hour is a great opportunity for employees to interact or to meet new members of the team.
  • AcademicWorks Buddy Program: Each new employee is assigned an AcademicWorks Buddy responsible for introducing them to others within the company and answering questions about our culture, company or market. The buddy also organizes a cross-departmental lunch so the new employee can meet team members from across the company.
  • Blue Box O'Love: Employees can submit complements about other Team Members in confidential fashion into the Blue Box of Love. The submissions are read aloud in front of the entire company at our quarterly meetings.

    What key characteristics tell you a prospective employee will be a great fit for your company?

    We interview everyone for both position fit and how they reflect our core values of being Obsessed with Customer Experience, Engaged, and Kind and Respectful. We also look for candidates that are excited about our mission of improving access to education. If they aren't excited about our mission it is a big red flag. 

    What can prospective employees do to get your attention?

    We always appreciate when prospective employees take the time to understand what we do and how their skills can translate to benefit our business. It makes a big difference when a prospective employee asks a lot of questions during the interview process as it confirms that they are looking for a fit as opposed to a job. 

    Are there any positions or types of candidates you are particularly focused on hiring in this coming year?

    We will be adding positions across all areas of the company in 2016.
