We asked A2LA to share a few programs they feel really capture what's unique about their workplace. Here is what they had to say.

  • 403 (b) Retirement: A2LA will deposit 5% of your salary as a fixed contribution into your 403b retirement plan after 90 days of employment. This is regardless of whether or not you make your own contributions! After three years, A2LA will increase this contribution to 10% of your salary and you will be fully vested at that time! A2LA employees are more than welcome to make their own contributions at anytime as well.
  • Comprehensive Healthcare Coverage: Our comprehensive benefits package provides eligible employees with multiple coverage options to suit their individual and/or family needs. A2LA has historically covered 70% of the premium for employees and their eligible dependents for medical and dental insurance. Employees also have coverage options Aflac supplemental insurance, access to flexible spending accounts (FSA), eligibility for a health savings account (HSA), a robust employee assistance program (EAP), life insurance, as well as  long- and short-term disability insurance, some of which is paid for by A2LA. Most of these coverage options are available with no waiting period!
  • Employee Refferal Program: Current staff have unlimited potential to earn a bonus of $500 or $1,000 for every successful hire in which they referred to A2LA.
  • Flexible Scheduling: A2LA employees have the ability to work a schedule to help them maintain an appropriate work-life balance. Staff have a lot of flexibility with regards to start and stop times in their work day. Most staff are also eligible to work compressed schedules as well as telecommute.
  • Gym Benefits: A2LA is a big proponent of fitness and overall wellness (see our award for Healthiest Maryland Businesses).  In addition to gym membership discounts and reimbursement, staff may adjust their schedule or leave during the day to attend the gym and return to work after. Many employees at A2LA attend the gym together making a fun and healthy team building event.  We also have a free fitness center available onsite!
  • Parental Perks: A2LA offers a number of family-friendly perks that allow staff to spend time with their family and friends outside of the office, one of which includes one week (40 hours) of parental leave for new moms and dads following the birth of an employee’s child or the placement of a child with an employee in connection with adoption or foster care.New mothers are also able to take advantage of A2LA's lactation room, which is equipped with comfortable seating, a refrigerator for storage purposes and a functioning sink.
  • Paid Time Off: A2LA employees accrue 13 or 20 days of annual leave and 13 days of sick time each year. They also enjoy 11 holidays including Black Friday (The day after Thanksgiving). Other types of paid leave include bereavement, jury duty, voting, management granted hours and parental leave.
  • Celebrations: There are several events each year that A2LA staff celebrate together. During the summer months we gather at a local park to grill and play in a corn hole tournament where everyone from new staff to the CEO join in on the fun. For Halloween, staff dress up in their best for a costume contest, a potluck lunch and a cubicle decorating contest. To end the year, staff also celebrate the holidays at a local venue for a night of food and fun. We have bagel/donut day monthly as well as lunch & learns monthly where we provide training and lunch to staff.  We also try to celebrate fun holidays like Pi Day and we throw in an ice cream social here and there. A2LA is all about celebrating wins, so sporadic celebrations pop up from time-to-time to celebrate how we work together to accomplish goals. 
  • Mentoring: Whether you have a number of years of experience or you are a recent graduate, A2LA provides a detailed mentoring program to ensure the success of new staff. At A2LA, people care about each other and will tailor the training to accommodate different learning styles.  
  • Well Being: A2LA ensures that its employees have a safe working environment to come to each day.and we proactively look for new initiatives to implement so that employees can remain healthy. Most recently, A2LA implemented sit-to-stand desks which are provided to all staff upon request. A2LA also pays for an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) so that staff have available resources for personal or work-related matters such as counseling, financial advise and much more. A2LA is also recognized as a Healthiest Maryland Business and we always strive to improve in this area. For the past several years, A2LA offers an annual wellness challenge that most of staff participate in.

What key characteristics tell you a prospective employee will be a great fit for your company?

At A2LA our culture is very important to us as it is a defining part of our success. While we look for candidates that can demonstrate professionalism, interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively, we hope that those who come on board will embrace our family-friendly atmosphere and have a “work-hard, play-hard” attitude. We look for individuals who are enthusiastic, curious for knowledge, passionate, self-driven and team oriented. Prior industry experience is typically not required but candidates should have a desire to learn and grow. We embrace each candidate and/or employee’s unique experience that helps to foster innovation, collaboration and continuous improvement.

What can prospective employees do to get your attention?

A prospective employee should show a strong interest in working at A2LA by learning who we are and inquiring about our employment opportunities. Are there any positions or types of candidates you are particularly focused on hiring in this coming year?

Over the next year A2LA will hire new staff as needed to support our anticipated growth in all departments. Typically, individuals who come to A2LA begin their careers in our operations department as an Accreditation Officer and other opportunities are not unknown to present themselves. When we do not have a position available, we are always reviewing applications and looking for talented individuals to fill the future openings.
