Perks and Programs

We asked 2nd Watch, Inc. to share a few programs they feel really capture what's unique about their workplace. Here is what they had to say.

  • 2nd Watch Cares: The 2nd Watch Philanthropy committee specifically focuses on bringing opportunities to our employees to give back to their local communities. (Last year we participated in 10 activities around the country. Some of the activities included: donating over 65 gifts to kids in need during the holidays, feeding 22 families at the Ronald McDonald house, raising $1,600 for Alzheimer's, and building bikes for kids in Texas! Our team cares about their communities and will continue to participate in these efforts along with many others through donations and volunteerism.
  • Wellness: Wellness is an important part of our culture and the focus is all about helping our employees live healthier, better lives by promoting employee wellness. Wellness challenges are designed for both employees and their family and friends to be involved and motivate each other through a 4-6 week challenge. 2W sponsors employees for race entry fees to participate in races that support a community cause. Taking Wellness a bit further, we have also held brown bag lunches about mindfulness and have begun the process to open a "zen den" in our largest office location. Wellness news letters are sent out monthly to keep wellness front of mind and encourage employees to take care of themselves.
  • Fun at Work: 2nd Watch encourages fun in the workplace and each Friday we bring in catered food so our employees can eat lunch together and socialize in a relaxed setting. We also like to run a costume contest for Halloween and the traditional a Best/Worst Holiday Sweater contest. You will often see our development team challenging each other in a wicked game of foosball! March madness and fantasy football are also popular brackets to participate in and lends to some healthy, competitive banter & bragging rights for the guy or gal on the top of the leader board!
  • Certification Award Program: 2nd Watch believes in training and offer extensive training opportunities for our employees, from new hire on-boarding through their career with continued education and training. 2nd Watch is continuing to grow and expand into new technologies and we understand the need to award our employees for being the best and the brightest in our space. For each technical AWS & Azure certification that an employee earns, we pay out a certification bonus to the employee! 2nd Watch spends approximately $150,000 - $175,000 annually on this bonus program for all its employees.
  • Journey Master's Program: 2nd Watch has a six-pillar employee program in place focusing on: wellness, empowerment, contribution, development, philanthropy and culture and comradery. This program was implemented to entice employees to get active and get involved with the community on a more consistent basis. It also was implemented to encourage employees to focus on their career development as well as improve 2nd Watch's overall competency. We also created a social platform so that 2nd Watchers can acknowledge and give Kudos to their coworkers regularly. At 2nd Watch, we value balance and a work hard play hard attitude. This competitive program has employees working to earn at least one of every badge to display on their desks or wherever they may choose.
  • Virtual Happy Hours: That's right, we have a distributed team and we still want to make sure that everyone can participate in Happy Hour! First started by our cloud solutions team, this trend has taken off across the remote teams. 2W Members join via video chat from wherever they are and enjoy an hour or so of peer comradery and a beverage of their choice! The last virtual happy hour that I saw had 30 people on via video at one time!
  • Work/Life Balance: Work/Life balance is among the top of the list for why employees stay at 2nd Watch. This program offers employees the autonomy to manage their own lives and schedules which goes a long way with a professional team. We have an open paid time off policy to allow for time away from the office. We are an extremely family friendly environment with excellent work-life balance & benefits allowing the employees opportunity to work remotely or telecommute as needed. We also support our employees when they are dealing with a major life event by allowing them the necessary time away from the business and other items to show our support. To sum it up, flexibility is a key part of 2nd Watch and employees are treated with the respect necessary to achieve an ideal work/life balance.
  • Free Food: Our team lives for free food and is one of the hottest topics in the office and in our surveys! We offer fully stocked kitchens providing food and beverage to employees 24/7 along with catered lunches every Friday and for most in-house meetings. We even provide catered meals for employees that work on holidays or off normal (M-F 8-5) work schedules. There is a Food Truck program for the Spring and Summer to offer additional food options for all of our foodies around here! #foodies is a slack channel to discuss all of the yummy cuisine our teams are enjoying across the country! 2nd Watch also stocks the kitchen with healthy foods, fruits and vegetables to increase the convenience of healthy eating. We also buy snacks from Snack Nation, a company that has aligned itself with Feeding America. For every box we buy from Snack Nation, they donate 10 meals via Feeding America.
